An uncle of the Bush family, Louisiana Governor Alexander Mouton, from Lafayette, served from 1842-1846. In 1853 he became President of the Southwestern Railroad Convention and was actively involved in railroads. After retirement he would occasionally make a trip to New Orleans on the Morgan Railroad, a traveling facility to which he was partial, and confessed that railroads were his hobby.
